The National Park Service estimates that more than 327.5 million people visited the parks in 2019. That’s up roughly 9 million from 2018, making it the third highest year of recreational visits behind 2016 and 2017.
Visitors from all over the world flock to parks to enjoy their natural beauty and take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Personally, I try to visit as many parks as frequently as I can.
On each visit, I bask in the beauty and the natural diversity that can be found across the United States. I also feel gratitude toward the wise men and women who acknowledged the value of these great landscapes and worked tirelessly to preserve them for future generations.
This video, created by Elyse Cox for TED-Ed, does a great job of explaining a bit of the history of our National Parks and why their preservation is so important.
