During the year, there are many occasions that might call for a small present. Of course, Christmas is one of the best occasions! Instead of buying something in a store, you could prepare some simple eco-friendly gifts for your friends and family — because, after all, it’s the thought that counts.

  • Chocolates bought by weight in a jam jar.
  • Loose tea leaves in a paper bag decorated by your kids or yourself.
  • Ready-to-make cookie set — Self-prepared cookie mixture in a jar with a handwritten recipe on the label.
  • Homemade sore-throat candy in a nice jar.
  • If you know how to sew, you could make a nice bag from fabric leftovers (you know you got plenty at home) or reusable makeup remover pads. It’s also a nice way to start a conversation about a zero-waste lifestyle with someone.
  • A self-decorated (or by your kid) notebook with a couple of zero-waste recipes and ideas.
  • Homemade “Bee Wrap” — You can start a zero-waste conversation with this one, too.
  • A gift basket filled with local farmer’s market goodies like cheese, honey, eggs, fruits and vegetables, etc.
  • A voucher for workshops in sewing, painting, cooking, etc.
  • A bouquet from your garden, or houseplant seedlings.
  • Homemade jam or canned fruit always make a nice gift, if you enjoy cooking.
  • Homemade lotion, soap, bath salt, or massage oil, if you like making cosmetics.
  • A second-hand book you liked with a self-made bookmark.
  • A small present bought at a thrift store or flea market.
